Implantes dentales en Paraguay: el proceso completo, paso a pasoDental implants in Paraguay: the full process, step by step

Dental implants with abutments and crowns over the jaw
Implant, abutment and crown: the three parts of the treatment

A dental implant is a titanium screw that replaces the root of a lost tooth. An abutment is fastened onto it and, above that, the crown you see in the mouth. They are three separate parts and each has its own timing.

1. Assessment and study

A 3D scan is needed to measure the available bone volume, the height up to the maxillary sinus and the position of the dental nerve. Gum condition is also reviewed: inflamed gums compromise the result.

2. Digital planning

With the scan and the intraoral scan, the exact position of the implant is planned in software: depth, angulation and distance to the neighbouring teeth. That plan produces a printed surgical guide which transfers it to the mouth.

3. Guided surgery

Placement is an outpatient procedure under local anaesthesia. The guide allows less tissue to be opened, shortens surgical time and reduces swelling afterwards. Most patients return to their routine the next day.

4. Osseointegration

The bone needs between three and six months to integrate with the titanium. During that period a temporary prosthesis can be worn so you are not left without a tooth, especially in the front.

5. Final crown

Once integration is complete, the area is scanned and the crown is made in zirconia or porcelain, matching the colour and shape of the neighbouring teeth. Only then is the treatment considered closed.

What determines the long-term result

  • The quantity and quality of bone, and whether a graft was needed.
  • Gum health before and after surgery.
  • Bite control: an overloaded implant fails.
  • Daily hygiene and regular check-ups.

With those four points under control, an implant is the most stable solution available for replacing a lost tooth.
